Obituary for Anthony "Tony" Nikolaus Burich

Anthony “Tony” Nikolaus Burich, 94, passed away April 21, 2018 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Kentucky with his family by his side. Tony was born September 4, 1923 to Ivan and Katherine (Suglich) Burich in Chicago, Illinois, the oldest of 4 children. He graduated from Englewood High, Chicago, Illinois.
Tony served in the Air Force in WWII and was stationed in California as a gunman for the Norththrop P61-C Black Widow aircraft. He met his beautiful bride, Lucille Irene Childress, in high school. Irene followed Tony to California and they married at the Army Air Base in Salinas, California on April 8, 1944.
After WWII, Tony began a long career in quality control engineering, transferring to Kentucky in 1976. His most previous career position was with Dresser Industries in Berea, Kentucky for fifteen years. After retirement, he consultant with various firms across the state of Kentucky. Tony loved to spend time outdoors landscaping his yard, growing a garden, playing a fixer-upper with the home, taking daily walks with his wife while greeting the neighbors, and coaching girls’ softball. He loved his community and continuously gave back by volunteering workforce support for individuals with disabilities, supporting Red Cross, and helping others as needed. He was a member and actively involved in the First Christian Church of Berea, Kentucky until his move to Richmond, Kentucky where he volunteered his time at the First Christian Church in Richmond, Kentucky.
Tony was preceded in death by the love of his life, and devoted wife, Lucille of 63 years. Tony is survived by his children, daughter Vicky (Jim) Greco and grandsons Michael, Tony and Matthew; son Thomas (Helen Clare) Burich and grandchildren Tricia, Kelly and Danny; son John (Miriam) Burich and granddaughters Kristen, Whitney and Hilary; and, daughter Wendy (Rick) Congleton and grandchildren Taylor and Brett.
Per Tony’s request, funeral services will be privately held. Memorial donations in memory of Tony may be made to the Hospice Care Plus Compassionate Care Center of Madison County so they may continue their invaluable care and services.
Care Cremation and Funeral Service are entrusted with final care.
